Lac de l'Aupillon
A small, round lake hides in the heights of the Rioclar valley, sheltered by summits approaching 3,000 metres — the only lake on the sun-facing slope (*adret*) of Barcelonnette worthy of the name. The route climbs past pastoral shepherds' huts at Les Hières, threads beneath the cascade de la Pisse, and crosses high alpine pastures before reaching the lake, which sometimes runs dry in summer.
