From the south side of the Gotthard Pass, the route winds down through the Leventina valley to follow the Ticino River, crossing from bank to bank past the rock outcrop at Stalvedro. It ends at the Dazio Grande customs house, one of the route's most striking historical landmarks.

La Strada Alta Leventina serpente à flanc de montagne entre Airolo et Biasca, traversant des forêts de châtaigniers, de petits villages et de vieilles églises romanes décorées de fresques. Le terrain alterne entre sentiers de montagne et hameaux dont l'architecture présente un caractère nettement valaisan plutôt que les rustici en pierre typiques du Tessin méridional.

Considered the most beautiful section of the Strada Alta Leventina, this stage winds through mountain slopes, chestnut forests, and clearings, passing the hamlet of Figgione with its 13th-century church and the Church of San Martino in Calonico, distinguished by a Romanesque bell tower. The route crosses the Ri del Ri and Ri di Sciresa streams and runs high above the dramatic Biaschina Gorge.

The route climbs the southern slope of the Leventina past Lago di Carì, tucked among the mountains beneath Pizzo Campello and the Cima di Gana Rossa, before reaching the small, unguarded stone refuge owned by the Utoe Pizzo Molare. Along the way, a stretch nicknamed *il sentiero del montanaro* — the mountaineer's path — passes through a larch forest and carries signed information about the region's wildlife.

Mogno-Fusio
Le sentier monte à travers la Valle Lavizzara — un paisible vallon latéral de la Vallemaggia — en commençant à Mogno, où se dresse l'église San Giovanni Battista de Mario Botta : une structure elliptique aux bandes alternées de marbre de Peccia et de granit de Riveo, dont le toit de verre incliné inonde l'intérieur de lumière du nord, construite sur les ruines d'une église détruite par une avalanche en 1986. De là, le chemin continue jusqu'au village alpin de Fusio.
