Hinter dem Gipfel von Dormillouse liegen drei Hochgebirgsseen — Lac Noir, Lac du Milieu und Lac de la Cabane — in einem Sensiblen Naturgebiet, das wegen seiner außergewöhnlichen Artenvielfalt ausgewiesen ist, wo Pflanzen das Wasser langsam besiedelt haben und sich Torf in Schichten mit einer Rate von 3 bis 4 Zentimetern pro Jahrhundert ansammelt. Die schwärzliche Farbe der Seen stammt von organischer Materie, die in diesen Torfschichten erhalten ist, von denen jede ein Zeugnis vergangenen Lebens darstellt, während Murmeltiere von den umliegenden Bergweiden auf 2.100 m Höhe Wache halten.
