The St. Rupert Pilgerweg passes through the Chiemgau foothills, tracing the ancient routes of St. Rupert and the salt trade, with the alpine stage out of Inzell climbing via the Kohleralm and Zwieselalm to offer sweeping Alpine views. Along the way, pilgrims encounter churches, wayside chapels, and roadside shrines bearing varied depictions of the saint — always as a bishop, always carrying an Evangelienbuch and a salt cellar.
