The trail passes through the UNESCO World Heritage Tectonic Arena Sardona, where the border region of cantons St. Gallen, Glarus, and Graubünden is considered the best place in the world to observe the processes and evidence of mountain formation. The central element is the Glarus thrust fault, a geological landmark that defines the character of this route from Filzbach onward.

Kerenzerberg Römerweg
The route traces a Roman road from Näfels through the winding alleys and historic manor homes of Mollis, then climbs past dry stone walls to the Kerenzerberg ridge, where the sheer faces of the Glärnisch Massif, Rautispitz, and Wiggis fill the southern sky. Throughout, the deep-blue Lake Walensee and the Churfirsten mountain range hold steady on the horizon.
