The trail climbs from Urnäsch's village centre — where stately Appenzeller houses line the streets and local cheese specialities fill the shop windows — up through pastures to the Bergrestaurant Osteregg, with a sweeping view stretching across the Appenzellerland all the way to the Bodensee. From the Zimmermannslauftegg ridge, the route continues toward Blattendürren before descending back to the village.

Die Felddivision 7 war ein traditionsreicher Milizverband der Schweizer Armee, der mehrheitlich aus Ostschweizer Truppen bestand. Sie entstand 1867 aufgrund der Armeeeinteilung und wurde dem 2. Armeekorps unterstellt. Von 1911 bis 1936 wurde sie vorübergehend zur 6. Division umbenannt. 1940 wurde die 7. Division dem neu geschaffenen 4. Armeekorps unterstellt.
