Les Lacs du Col Bas
Behind the summit of Dormillouse, three high-altitude lakes — Lac Noir, Lac du Milieu, and Lac de la Cabane — sit within a Sensitive Natural Area classified for its exceptional biodiversity, where plants have slowly invaded the water and peat accumulates in layers at a rate of 3 to 4 centimetres per century. The lakes' blackish colour comes from organic matter preserved in those peat layers, each one a record of vanished life, while marmots keep watch from the surrounding mountain pastures at 2,100 m elevation.

Balcons de Serre-Ponçon
This nine-day circuit traces the shores of Lac de Serre-Ponçon — an artificial lake filled since November 1960 — from balcony paths that reveal the reservoir's turquoise waters and the drowned valley below. Along the way, remarkable landmarks punctuate the route: the Abbaye de Boscodon, the cathedral at Embrun, the ancient cité Caturige, the village of Saint-Vincent-les-Forts, mountain chapels, and scattered pastoral cabins.
