Der Europäische Fernwanderweg E4 ist Teil des europäischen Wanderwegnetzes und soll den südwestlichsten Punkt des europäischen Kontinents in einem großen Bogen durch das westliche Mitteleuropa mit der im Südosten liegenden Insel Zypern verbinden. Der E4 ist mit einer Gesamtlänge von ungefähr 12.090 Kilometern bei weitem der längste aller Europäischen Fernwanderwege.

The route climbs steeply through forest and open alpine meadows to the Köglhörndl (1.645 m), where a summit cross marks a fine viewpoint, then continues along the ridge to the Hundsalmjoch (1.637 m) with its modern stainless-steel cross. A short detour near the finish leads to the Hundalm Eis- und Tropfsteinhöhle — an ice and stalactite cave — just 20 minutes off the path to the Alpengasthaus Buchacker (1.380 m).

A circular walk around the Thiersee lake that traces the original filming locations of postwar Austrian cinema, stopping at carved wooden sculptures, story panels, and the underground passages of "Blaubart's Burg" behind the swimming pool. The route begins and ends at the Passionsspielhaus — the village church hall that was converted into Tyrol's only film studio between 1946 and 1952.

The Brünnstein itself — its pale Oberrhätkalk summit described by one 19th-century alpinist as a "mächtige Felsenkrone" rising above a broad green base — rewards walkers with a celebrated view of the Kaiser massif and the chance to spot ibex, first introduced here from Switzerland in 1963.

The Trainsjoch sits on the border between Bavaria and Austria, its open, free-standing position making it an exceptional viewpoint — particularly toward the south into the Bavarian Alps. The route passes the Mariandlalm at around 1.200 m, an alpine hut with a sunny terrace, before the final approach steepens sharply just below the summit.
