From the Salzstiegelhaus, trail 520 climbs through thinning forest to open mossy alpine pasture, passing wind turbines and a reservoir on the way to the 1965 m Speikkogel summit. In clear weather, the Seetaler Alps and the Zirbitzkogel stretch across the horizon.

From the small municipality of Obdach, the route climbs past Amering, the Weissensteineben, and the Weißensteinhütte before reaching the Peterer Sattel at 1,745 m.
